Pioneer's Rites Held In Tonopah

"Tonopah - Impressive funeral rites under the direction of the Tonopah chapter of Eastern Star, were held from the Masonic Temple here Sunday afternoon (31 Dec 1939) for Mrs. Sarah Alice Pomeroy, pioneer Nevada resident, who died early Friday (29 Dec 1939) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Davison in Las Vegas. Mrs. Nellie G. Harbaugh, worthy matron, and James Currie, worthy patron of the lodge were in charge of the last rites for the matron who was the last surviving charter member of the Tonopah Chapter of Eastern Star.
Scores of friends and relatives attended the services, including many persons from widely separated places in Nevada and California. A profusion of floral pieces were banked around the casket and a long cortege of cars, carrying the friends and relatives, accompanied the body to the Tonopah Cemetery where burial was made in the Masonic Plot.
Mrs. Pomeroy, who lived in Nevada for many years, with residence in Hamilton, Delamar and Tonopah, was widely known. She had taken an active interest in civic and fraternal affairs and scores of friends mourn her passing.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene and Emery Marty of Tonopah and George and Ben of Fresno; three daughters, Mrs. Earl Davison of Las Vegas, Mrs. Nell Hall of Glendale and Mrs. Hugh Burk of Los Angeles. All of Mrs. Pomeroy's immediate family were in Tonopah in attendance at the services."
