Clinton was listed in the 1894 and 1895 Philadelphia city directories as a clerk, living with his parents at 1347 Brown Street in Philadelphia. Around 1897 he married Marie F. D'Arros, also of Philadelphia.

On April 25, 1898, the U.S. Congress declared that a state of war between the U.S. and Spain had existed since April 21. In response, Clinton enlisted in the Sixth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, a Pennsylvania National Guard unit. (Marie was pregnant with their first child at the time.) The regiment reported at Mt. Gretna, Pa., on April 28, 1898, where Clinton was enrolled as a Corporal in Company K. The regiment spent its short term of service in Virginia, returning to Pennsylvania on August 25. Clinton was mustered out at Philadelphia with the rest of the company on October 17, 1898.

In the city directories of 1898 and 1899 Clinton was listed as a salesman, living at his parents' address. In the 1900 census he and Marie, and their one-year-old daughter Ethel, were living on Holstein Street in Philadelphia, with Marie's mother and brother. Clinton's occupation was clothing agent. Their second child, Everett Joseph, was born in August of 1900.

Within the next few years, the family moved to Washington, D.C. While there, Clinton became active in the Harry W. Lawton Camp of the United Spanish War Veterans. In the 1906 city directory Clinton's occupation appeared as "C A Ford & Co, merchant tailors." (His father was a merchant tailor in Philadelphia.)

Sometime around 1907 the family moved to New Jersey, where their third and last child, Evelyn D'Arros, was born. Clinton was listed in the New York City directory for 1910 as a manager, residing in New Jersey at "El Mora" (actually, Elmora, a neighborhood in the city of Elizabeth).

On the morning of March 18, 1910, Clinton was fatally injured in New York City when he slipped in front of a subway train. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, and died later that day at the age of 36. At the time he was a manufacturer of uniforms. He left a wife and three children, ages 11, 9 and 3. Like his brother Walter, Clinton died in his mid-thirties in New York City, with no obituary in the Philadelphia newspapers.

Their children:
Ethel-Marie D'Arros Ford
Everett Joseph Ford (b. 2/12/1923, Pennsylvania; d. 6/2/2002, Tennessee)
Evelyn D'Arros Ford
