Elmer H Schmitz, Sr. 124 S. 9th St., Hilbert Age 73, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 1987 at Calumet Memorial Memorial Hospital, Chilton, of Parkinson's Disease after a lengthy illness.

He was born August 22, 1913 in the Town of Rantoul, the son of Peter and Elizabeth Rach Schmitz. He attended Hilbert schools. He was married March 22, 1941 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hilbert, to Doris Cullen. After their marriage, they lived in the Town of Rantoul, where they farmed. Mr. Schmitz had also operated Schmitz's Amusements in Hilbert, along with his brother for 50 years, retiring in 1978. The couple moved into Hilbert 9 years ago.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hilbert, and a member of its Men's Club. He was a charter member member of the Hilbert Kiwanis Club; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Chilton; the T.K.E. Fraternity; and the American Music Operators Association.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; mother-in-law, Mrs. Julia Cullen, Chilton; four daughters and sons-in-law: Bridget and Keith Bornemann, Chilton; Diana and Butch Krueger, Hilbert; Donna and Willie Schad, Brillion; Sedona and Tom VandeHey, Sherwood; three sons and a daughter-in-law: T.J. Schmitz, Indianapolis, Indiana; Junior and Sherry Schmitz, Scottsdale, Arizona; Sam Schmitz, Hilbert; 15 grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Anita Breit, Kaukauna; Mrs. Erla Kleist, Potter; a brother, Raymond Schmitz, Hilbert; and special friends, Janet Mand and Pat Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Allen; an infant sister, sister, Sedonia; and father-in-law: James Cullen, Sr.

A service has been set for 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hilbert, with the Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Kapitzke-Sansom Funeral Home, Hilbert from 4 until 9 on Friday (tonight), February 6, and from 8 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church on Saturday. There will be an Eagles Service at 7 p.m. this evening, a St. Mary's Men's Club Rosary at 7:30, and a prayer service at 8 p.m.
