She was united in marriage to Elmer (Jake) Yliniemi on October 7, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church. After a brief honeymoon in Bemidji, the Cities, and Duluth, Jake was drafted into the US Army on October 16, 1950.

They farmed in Carsonville Township and raised four children. They sold their farm in 1975 and purchased and operated Bass Bay Resort in Osage, MN. They sold the resort and built their retirement home on Straight Lake in Osage, MN and enjoyed many years together.

Madeline was a farmer, a boat maker, a bus driver, a potato truck driver, resort owner, sales lady, and she worked at Douglas Lodge in Itasca State Park.
